Meet the Kellys

Kevin and Kate Kelly have been married for 31 years, and are parents to Jack, Tom, Joe, Dillon, Elaine, Robert, Audrey, and Anna. Kevin works as an investment adviser, while Kate excels at being a homemaker. They live in Sylvania, and belong to St. Joseph Church, in the same town. Here’s their story.

Please share the short story of how you met and began dating.
We met the first week of our senior years in college at University of Notre Dame/St. Mary’s College.

What are some favorite family activities?
Family BBQ, Schoen Family Rosaries, and sports.

Share a time you all really laughed as a family.
We laughed hard at a family wedding this month.

Describe a dream family vacation.
Time at the beach in the sun and surf in Florida.

What do you love most about being married?
Spending time with best friend…helping each other grow in our love for God, each other, and our children.

What is your greatest challenge as a married couple and how are you working at it?
Finding time for meaningful communication and when we do have time, trying to remember what we wanted to talk about!

What is your greatest challenge as parents and how are you working at it?
Kate’s diagnosis of ovarian cancer in Aug 2017, and now an early recurrence and clinical trial treatment. Trusting in God’s abundant mercy and love and strength as we face this challenge together and with our children -while being lifted up in prayer by family and friends.

How does your family pray?
Family rosary, dedication and prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, mealtime prayers, and Sunday mass.

What are you moved to proclaim to other families?
God’s unconditional love and mercy and faithfulness in all times and in all ways!

How have Mass Impact and LIT Groups impacted your marriage and family life? Why do you think others should get involved?
Mass Impact has been a blessing to our family, most especially our 4 youngest children. It has reinforced our family’s daily commitment to God – and has encouraged our children with the knowledge that there are so, so many wonderful families that prioritize Christ and His love for us in our daily walks to grow in His love. Phenomenal support to families to grow in faith through Mass Impact/LIT group activities/fellowship in the journey to Christ.
